On Your Mark, GO!!

Well, we have one week of missionary work under our belts and it’s been a fun and busy week.

Sunday at church Brother Webb, the Elders Quorum President, asked us to visit an older gentleman, Brother Robert Taylor.  So we just went over and met him.  He just found out he has stage 4 cancer and is dealing with a lot.  We visited with him and he said he would like a blessing before Chemo starts on Wednesday. We went over the next day, and with a friend of his from the Ward, gave him a blessing.  It was quite a spiritual experience.  We have been checking on him each day this week.  He has had a hard time with the start of Chemo.

Monday, another senior missionary couple called and invited us to go to the Temple with them on Tuesday.  We were excited to go with them.

Tuesday morning they picked us up and we went to the St. Louis Temple for an Endowment Session.  After the session we headed over to the mission home, which wasn’t too far away.  They needed to pick up a few things, and we had a few questions.  We had a good visit with the senior office missionaries.  They are wonderful!  They answered our questions and gave us a mission phone.  (which we still aren’t quite sure how to use) On our way home we stopped and had lunch together.  It was a good day.

That evening we went over to the church to help the youth prepare for a carnival they are having next Saturday.  They are earning money for camp next year.   We cut out arrows and painted signs.  They are really going all out.  I hope it’s a successful day for them!  While there a member of the Bishopric gave us a 4-page list of all the less actives to visit with an emphasis on about 10 families.

Wednesday, we took our list and headed out.  Our Ward boundaries are huge!  It covers 8 or 9 small cites or more.  We haven’t been everywhere yet.  We went to about 10 homes that day.  We talked to 1 sister out on the porch.  She was very nice but her husband wasn’t home and wanted us to come back another time.  We also talked with the Waidman’s.  We had actually made an appointment with them before we went.  As I was talking to her on the phone I didn’t think she was active.  But as we walked in there was the Liahona and other church books.  I looked around and there was lots of church things there in the living room.  As we talked we found out that they had been on 2 missions themselves.  They just hadn’t been to church for a long time because of health reasons.  We loved visiting with them.  As we were leaving they gave us a bag full of food to give to the sisters in our Ward.  We were surprised on Sunday to see them walk in.  Yay!!

Thursday, we headed out again to meet people.  We ended up in a rather rough neighborhood but we knocked on the door and this older man came out,  Andrew Perkins.  He invited us in and said, “I knew 2 people were coming from the church, I just didn’t know what they’d look like.”  We talked with him for about an hour and invited him to come to church Sunday.  He said he’d like to but needs a ride.  So, we told him we would set that up for him. He had mentioned that he remembered a Brother Bledsoe and Brother O’Neil.  So we looked them up  and asked Brother O’Neil to pick him up.

Friday, we did a few more visits but didn’t catch anyone home.  We had the Sisters over for dinner.  Siter Booth and Sister Crane serving in our Ward and they are so great!!  It was fun to get to know them a little better.

Saturday we met with Lori Patsouros in her front yard.  She had 3 dogs going crazy in the house, so we were happy to stand outside and visit.  Invited her to church and to bring her kids to the carnival next week.

So today at church we had 2 of the people we contacted come to church!!  Pretty blessed for our first week.

I get tired easy but the Lord is blessing us.  Dad is so good to me.  We are happy and loving this time.
