Happy Father's Day

Image
The week of June 9 -  June 15 This was a week of preparing for Senior Missionaries coming.  Preparing 2 apartments, cleaning a little, moving furniture around and getting carpets cleaned.   Saturday we went to DeSoto and moved the Elders into their new apartment from Hillsboro.  They had asked a few people from their Ward to come and help.  That was wonderful.  The more help, the faster it goes.  We met the owners of the new house first.  The Elders came dressed in their suits to meet them and talk with her, get the keys and look through the house themselves.  After meeting with her, we went over to the Hillsboro apartment and started moving stuff. The Elders had changed into their work clothes to do the moving. It didn't look like the Elders had really even done any prep work, but they assured us they had.  It was just really bad.  There were 2 families that came to help, with several kids helping.  I would get them...

A Ceiling Falling in and Dinner Rolls being thrown at us

Week of June 2 - June 8 Our plan was to move the Sikeston Sisters into their new apartment on Thursday.  We had it all set up.  The Elders from the town next to them were coming, the Elders Quorum President and a few others from the Ward were all meeting us at the apartment at 10:30 on Thursday.  Perfect, we were ready to go and get it all done in one day. Wednesday night around dinner time, Dan said a couple of times, "I'm not feeling very good."  But I didn't really think too much about it.  Then at 9:00 he told me he had been having chest pains and they seem to be getting worse.  I told him we should probably go to the ER .  No, he didn't want to, just yet.  I went to sleep about 10:00 and about 10:30, he woke me up and said, "I think we should go."  The pains hd gotten worse.  So we got to the hospital about 11:00 pm.  They did EKG and blood tests and said they felt like he should stay over night.  They hadn't see...

Kimswick a small German Town here in Missouri

The Week of May 26 - June 1 Since my experience last week, I have been so much happier.  Everytime I start to think life is too hard or that I'm in too much pain, I start to count my blessings.  What a world of difference that makes in my attitude.   The Sisters in Sikeston, MO are living in a terrible apartment.  Our goal has been to find them a new one.  They have shared with us that they have roaches, mice, and the roof leaks.  We really need to find a new place for them.  So we went on line and looked at apartments, and had a few addresses we would stop by and look at.  Then we called our Housing Inspector and asked if she knew of any apartments in the area or if she knew anyone that might be able to help us.  She gave us 2 names.  So we called both of them.  The one gave us an apartment to look at but the other never called us back.  So on Wednesday we decided to go down to Sikeston and look at the addresses we had a...

A Hymn Testimony and an answer to Prayer

Image
Week of May 19 - 25 Zone Conference Week. I was called on to share my Hymn testimony at Zone Conference.  A Hymn testimony is a your testimony using only lines from the Hymn's.  It was actually harder to do than I thought it would be.  But here's mine. There is Sunshine in my Soul today for I am a Child of God I know my father lives and loves me too. My heart shall triumph in my Lord I know that my redeemer Lives I stand all amazed at the Love Jesus offers me Once all things He meekly bore I tremble to know that for me He was crucified He has risen Christ has won the victor I'll worship Him with all my might For Jesus is my Light Precious Savior, Dear Redeemer I need thee every hour Constant He is and kind for one brief moment heavens vies  Appears before my gaze My Savior to my aid will come Until at the glorious throng I kneel at His feet Praying daily in our homes God hears my secret prayers We'll feel His Love divine Leading to our home in heaven Where we want to...

Transfers and Tornados

Week of May 12 - May 18 Transfer Week! On Friday afternoon we were over at the Bryan's apartment getting it ready for the Witham who will be coming soon.  It was a bright sunny day.  No sign of a storm or rain.  All of a sudden it got really dark and started raining real hard.  It lasted for about a half hour.  Then it was sunny and bright again.  Weird!  That night all the Seniors had dinner at the Smith's.  While we were eating dessert, President McKay called.  A tornada had gone through St. Louis downtown area and had done some real damage.  Sisters that live down there, on the 7th floor, had their windows blowen out.  We needed to move them out and make sure they were okay.  We called and they were fine, just a little shook.  They hadn't been home, thank goodness, when it happened.  We told them to go and stay at another apartment not far with some other Sisters.   Saturday morning we needed to c...

Miracles and Blessing

Week of May 5 - May 11 Highlights this week: Sisters in Jacksonville (2 1/2 hours away) needed a dresser.  So we drove up and gave them a dresser, they were so excited.  Then we drove over to see the Elders in Pittsfield .  Their apartment was terrible.  When we got there I asked them how their apartment was and they said, "Fine,"  Then I started looking around and asking them questions, they finally started showing me all the things wrong. It was a list: AC leaks and the wall is wet and squishy, a nail is sticking up in the kitchen floor , they keep getting holes in their socks, toilet doesn't work well , the sink in the bathroom leaks and no water pressure , they have carpet in the bedroom but it  must be it is so thin you can feel the boards underneath it and their are wholes in the floor.  There are no cupboards in the kitchen to put away food so it's all over a desk they have in the kitchen.  They have a table to eat at but it also has stu...
