Got our first letter !!!

Image
It's been a long week! Monday we had plans to go driving around and explore some more, but it was raining and we didn't want to go out sightseeing in the rain.  So we decided to go to the movies.  It's been a while since we saw a movie and we thought "Reagan" looked good.  Sister Houston had recommended it to us.  We enjoyed it. Tuesday we had an appointment with a less active member that we have been trying to catch.  We were excited to get to know him.  We arrived right on time for the appointment and rang the bell and the "Ring" doorbell said they were not available.  We left a message on the "Ring" and went on our way very disappointed.  About one hour later we got a call from him, asking us where we were.  We told him we rang the bell and no one answered.  He said that couldn't be because he had been sitting in the living room waiting for us.  Come to find out he moved 30 years ago to another city.  Still in our Sta...

The Eckert's Farm

Image
Monday morning we got up and did a little house cleaning, then headed over to the Eckert's Farm to see Debbie Craig.  She is a less active sister that we had visited two weeks before. She invited us to come to the farm where she works for a tour and lunch with her. The farm was beautiful and so fun. They have a great restaurant, bakery and market with  fresh fruits and vegetables they grow. You can also pick your own apples, but I decided I would rather shop than pick apples. The bakery was amazing and I wanted everything!  We will definitely being going back for more pastries.  I felt a real connection with Sister Craig as she told us a little about her story.  I put my arm around her and told her we would love to see her back at church.  She got all teary eyed and said, "Just let me work out a few things"  I think she is close to coming back.  She is someone I would just love to be friends with. Everything was decorated so cute. Flowers everywhe...

Zone Conference Week!

A new week and it was a good one!! Monday, we met with Robert Taylor.  He is going through Chemo and is really struggling.  But he loves for us to come and visit him.  He has great stories to tell.  He is a big believer in BIG FOOT and has stories of seeing hiss foot prints in the woods.  He also remembers the time when he was young when it RAINED FISH!  Still need to look that one up. We met Sister Traynor who is in an Assisted Living Facility and has lots of health problems.  But she is so sweet and wishes she could come to church more often. Then we watched President Nelson's 100 Birthday!!  It was wonderful. Tuesday was Zone Conference up in Champaign, IL.  Champaign is about 2 1/2 hours away.  We drove another senior couple, the Dodd's.  It was so fun to be with all the young missionaries and to be taught by them.  President and Sister McKay taught some powerful lessons on being united as one and the importance of th...

The Arch and the Biggest Catsup Bottle in the World

Image
Monday was Labor Day and P-Day so we headed out to do some sightseeing.  We drove to the Mississippi River Overlook.  We had to drive through some pretty ghetto area's and as we were getting there Dan said, "see that tower over there, we have to climb that to see the Arch." Not true...there was a nice ramp we climbed up and saw a beautiful view of the Mississippi River and the Arch.  It was amazing!! Then we took a drive along the Mississippi River.  It is so wide and beautiful.  Trees and greenery everywhere.  It was so fun to see. After our drive we went over to the Webb's house for a BBQ.  They have a big family with lots of kids running everywhere and lots and lots of food.  He smoked pork, beef, and BBQed some chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.  It was crazy!  Sister Webb had to work so Brother Webb was just there with all the family.  They are a fun family.  Tuesday, is Temple Tuesday.  So we went to an Endowment Sess...

On Your Mark, GO!!

Well, we have one week of missionary work under our belts and it’s been a fun and busy week. Sunday at church Brother Webb, the Elders Quorum President, asked us to visit an older gentleman, Brother Robert Taylor.   So we just went over and met him.   He just found out he has stage 4 cancer and is dealing with a lot.   We visited with him and he said he would like a blessing before Chemo starts on Wednesday. We went over the next day, and with a friend of his from the Ward, gave him a blessing.   It was quite a spiritual experience.   We have been checking on him each day this week.   He has had a hard time with the start of Chemo. Monday, another senior missionary couple called and invited us to go to the Temple with them on Tuesday.   We were excited to go with them.      Tuesday morning they picked us up and we went to the St. Louis Temple for an Endowment Session.   After the session we headed over to the mission ho...
