Our Second Zone Conference

Image
Monday we went out for breakfast!  A lot of places are closed on Monday's so it took us about three tries before we found a place open.  But it was good!!  After breakfast we spent some time preparing for Zone Conference.  President always sends a talk and/or scriptures to study before coming.  We really enjoyed preparing.  That afternoon, Robert called and wanted us to come by and visit with him in his back yard.  So we went and sat in his yard for about an hour visiting him and listening to his stories.  After dinner I called Debbie Craig.  She is a less active sister that I have come to really love.  We talked for about 45  minutes. We laughed and cried and shared a lot of stories together.  She is becoming a sweet friend. Tuesday was Zone Conference.  There are 3 Zones in Illinois and we all met together in Springfield, about an hour and a half north of us.  President McKay always has wonderful messages and ...

We love our young missionaries!

It's been an other slow week.  We both have been struggling to feel better.   Monday we didn't do  much but rest hoping we would be up to our normal missionary lives.  Tuesday, we went out and visited Dean Rigsby at the Carpet Store.  He was so happy to see us and talked to us about Conference. (even though he said he didn't watch it) We encouraged him to try and come to church on Sunday. He thought he would try and catch a bus to church.  But, sadly we didn't see him at church.   Wednesday was District Council.  One of our favorite days.  We love these missionaries!   Sister Booth and Sister Clark Wednesday afternoon we passed out a few Relief Society Activity invites.  We stopped by the Ruffins house.  She was sleeping and so we talked with her husband.  He was so kind and said he would have his wife call when she woke ups.  We didn't really expect to hear from her because we get people saying t...

Sickies

It's been a long week with not much happening.  I got sick Monday afternoon and went to bed.  Slept almost all day Tuesday.  Wednesday  I kept pretty quiet because I still wasn't feeling well.   Thursday we went to District Meeting and Dan gave the Book of Mormon   Out the Door message.  I was done in so we went home and I slept till our 4:30 appointment with Barnard.  He is a guy man who was hit by a car 4 weeks ago.  His husband of 5 years just left him and he was not in a very happy mood.   But the Sisters are so wonderful and had been praying about how to talk to him about marriage is between a man and a women.  After talking to him and seeing how depressed he was I thought, "today is not the day to have this lesson."  But they went on and gave the most  beautiful lesson on how much God loved him just the way he was. They shared with him the importance about being Chaste and how Heavenly Father's plan ...

The Tallest Man in the World!

After last weeks experience with our car, we took it into another place to be fixed, hoping all would go well this time.  Dropped it off at 7:00 am and by 10:00 they were done!!  We were so happy!  We decided since we still had the whole day, we would go exploring.  We had heard about Alton and a few things there to see and do.  There was a man, Robert Pershing Wadlow , that lived in Alton in 1918-1940 that was 8 foot 11 1/2 inches tall !  They have a statue of him at a park, so we drove over to see it.  It told a little about his life.  At the age of 5 he was 5'6" tall wore clothes that would fit a 17 year old. At the age of 13 he was 7' 4" tall.  He became a well traveled ambassador for the city of Alton and was known for his positive attitude and gentle manner.   Just a few miles away were the remains of a prison from the Civil War.  It is right off the shore of the Mississippi .   This is the brick road le...
