Kimswick a small German Town here in Missouri
The Week of May 26 - June 1
Since my experience last week, I have been so much happier. Everytime I start to think life is too hard or that I'm in too much pain, I start to count my blessings. What a world of difference that makes in my attitude.
The Sisters in Sikeston, MO are living in a terrible apartment. Our goal has been to find them a new one. They have shared with us that they have roaches, mice, and the roof leaks. We really need to find a new place for them. So we went on line and looked at apartments, and had a few addresses we would stop by and look at. Then we called our Housing Inspector and asked if she knew of any apartments in the area or if she knew anyone that might be able to help us. She gave us 2 names. So we called both of them. The one gave us an apartment to look at but the other never called us back. So on Wednesday we decided to go down to Sikeston and look at the addresses we had and see what we could find. Well, there is no way that the inside of those apartment's looked like the pictures on online because the outside was so bad. Not in good neighborhoods and pretty run down. We drove over to the 1 address that we got from the Inspectors realtor but we weren't really impressed with that one either and there was no office on site. We stopped at a Real Estate Office in town but they said there were no houses or apartments in Sikeston for rent. We were feeling pretty discouraged. We had the feeling that we should try and call the one Realtor that we hadn't gotten a hold of earlier. I called and she picked up. She said she was just thinking about us and had lost our number and was trying to find it. We asked if she knew of any places to rent that would be good for the missionaries. (she is a member, her husband is in the Ward Bishopric) She said that was not her specialty but she would see what she could find and call us back. She call back about 10 minutes later and said she had 3 places that might work. She would send me the information. I told her we were there in Sikeston and would she have time to show us them now. She was so sweet. She said, "I actually work in Cape and am hardly ever in this office." But today she had decided to come into Sikeston. She got the keys and met us over at the first place. The first 2 places we looked at where very nice but really just too big for the missionaries. But the third on was the charm. Perfect! 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bath. Nice neighborhood and close to the church. We said we would take it on the spot. How soon can we move in? June 1! That was Sunday. Perfect, we could move the Sisters in that next week.
We have been working on getting an apartment ready for some Senior Missionaries to come next week. So anytime we have a free couple of hours, we are working and getting things ready for them. Clean the carpets and couch. Move furniture around, make sure they have everything in the kitchen they my need, desks to study at, good lighting, table and chairs to eat at and it feels clean and orderly for them. I made up a little Welcome Folder for them with all in the information they might need to know about he apartment, shopping in the area, how to set up Internet and where to park at the apartment building.
Saturday we went to Kimmswick. It's a cute little German Town. So many little shops and bakery's. We had a great time just wondering around the old houses they have restored and eating too much.
