Transfers and Tornados

 Week of May 12 - May 18

Transfer Week!

On Friday afternoon we were over at the Bryan's apartment getting it ready for the Witham who will be coming soon.  It was a bright sunny day.  No sign of a storm or rain.  All of a sudden it got really dark and started raining real hard.  It lasted for about a half hour.  Then it was sunny and bright again.  Weird!  That night all the Seniors had dinner at the Smith's.  While we were eating dessert, President McKay called.  A tornada had gone through St. Louis downtown area and had done some real damage.  Sisters that live down there, on the 7th floor, had their windows blowen out.  We needed to move them out and make sure they were okay.  We called and they were fine, just a little shook.  They hadn't been home, thank goodness, when it happened.  We told them to go and stay at another apartment not far with some other Sisters.

Saturday morning we needed to check on them.  So we drove over to where the Tornado had hit.  We could not believe all the damage.  Also we couldn't believe we could actually drive down their street.  No police telling us not to go down that street.  We slowly drove down the street.  Big trees down, roofs off and laying on the ground, windows blown out.  Glass and dapre every where.  We had never seen any thing like it.  We actually found a place to park right out side of their apartment.  We met them and walked up the 7 floors to see what damage had happened.  The apartment didn't look too bad, just a couple of windows blown out and no electricity or water.  We told them to take all their personal things, like a transfer, and move into an empty apartment we had close by. We handed them the keys and said "Good Luck."  Sorry, I can't do 7 flights of stairs (no electricity, no elevator) more than once.
