A Homeless guy, a Cigarette Lighter and a Miracle!
Week of January 6-12 2025
Worse storm in 6 years! So much snow and ice and freezing cold. Dan had to meet the missionaries that were going home at the Hotel at 4:00 am to get them to the airport on time. He had locked the luggage in the trailer so it would be safe. But that morning before he drove to the airport he tried to unlock the trailer but it was frozen and wouldn't budge. He was so nervous what he was going to do, but headed over to the airport. He got the airport and parked in front of the terminal. As he was getting out of the truck he saw a homeless guy walking up to him. He had the thought to ask him if he had a lighter. He did! So they warmed up the lock and it came open. Dan thanked him and gave him $5.00. The guy was very happy and so was Dan. What a miracle! The Lord was watching over him. It really was another miracle that all the missionaries got home that day. A few flights were cancelled but Sister Smith got them on another flight, and they all got home. Staff Meeting was a little different, as the President told us what houses and apartments were going to be closed or opened, and we had a lot to get ready for
Tuesday, we spent most of the day preparing for Transfers. Calling missionaries that were getting Whitewashed or closed. Reminding all missionaries that were getting transferred to leave their keys with their companion. Pack up and leave your apartment clean.
Thursday, we met with the Riechlet's. They are going to be House Inspectors for the O'Fallon Zone. After our meeting we went over to the apartment to clean out the refrigerator. To our surprise, the place was a disaster. So many clothes were left. So much food in the whole kitchen and refrigerator. We just looked at each other and thought, this is a bigger job than we have time for right now. So we took care of the food that wouldn't keep and decided we would come back later and really clean.
Friday we spent 8 hours in front of the computer, answering emails, renewing leases and providing insurance. After 8 hours I couldn't think any more and decided to leave the rest for another day.
Saturday was spent cleaning house, doing laundry and going to the Storage Unit. The Storage Unit is probably the coldest place we ever go. The sun never shines and the wind blows and since the storm we can't even get the trailer in to the storage unit. We have to use 4-wheel drive to just get to our apartment.
The weather has been around 5 degrees! I wish the sun would shine!!
