TORNADO SEASON!

 Week of March 10-16

Moday was our regular Staff Meeting and lots of emails and projects to work on.  We decided that it would be good for each missionary apartment to have our phone number, their Inspectors phone number and the office/maintenance of their apartment phone number.  So, I have been making up that list for each of the apartments.  I'll laminate them and then put a magnet on them so they can be in each apartment on their refrigerator.  It's turning out to be a bigger project than I thought it would be,  but I really think it's going to be helpful.  I've also been trying to put that information in my notebook (I carry with me everywhere) and also if the washer and dryer and microwave is the missions or the apartments.  It is so helpful to have it on hand and not have to go the file each time to look it up.

Tuesday we got up early and drove to Sikeston to switch out a washer for the Missionaries.  I love going to the missionaries houses!  After our short visit there we headed to Farmington to clean up an apartment that was vacant but will have missionaries in it again soon.  We didn't think it was going to take very long to do, but 2 1/2 hours later we were finally ready to go.  The Water Heater looked new but was not working.  So we called the owner and he was actually on his way over to another apartment right close by, so he said he come and take a look at it.  Thankfully it was a minor problem and he fixed it right while we were there.  We were both tired that night.  Dan went to bed early, while I stayed up a little longer (which is not our normal practice)  At 9:30 we got a call from some Sisters who live about 1 hour away.  they had locked them selves out of their apartment.  We told them they could drive up to the office and we would give them a key.  But they can't drive after 10:00 and they couldn't get here and back in the short time they had.  Dan was way too tired to drive over to them, so we all decided that they would call another sister companionship that was only 15 minutes away and ask them if they could spend the night with them.  So they did.  Dan told them that he would meet them at their apartment in the morning at 6:30 am.

So Wednesday started early for Dan.  He got up and left at 5:30 to drive the key over to the sisters apartment.  He had to turn right around and get back in time for an early Doctor's appointment that he had.  I worked in the office for most of the day but by 2:30 I was feeling done and wanted to go mone.  Just then my phone rang and it was Rob.  He always lifts my spirits and so I grabbed my phone and went into the break room down the hall.  We talked for quite a while and I was feeling so much better by the end, I stayed and worked for a little longer.

Thursday was our Finance Meeting with Sister Davis and Elder Connell.  They are the finance department and we have to go over all the leases that have increased and anything else that might have changed over the month.  Dan is really good at keeping track of all the stuff, thank goodness!!  After our meeting we needed to bring a set of missionaries a new mattress.  So we loaded the truck up and took mattresses and bed frames to them.  We had not met the Daseler's yet and they live close to these Elders so we had set up a time to meet them on our way home.  It worked our perfectly.  They were so nice and excited to start serving the missionaries.  Our Inspectors are the best.

Friday morning we did a Zoom with the whole mission.  President had asked us to talk to the missionaries about testing their Smoke Detectors.  they are suppose to check it every month on the first.  After checking it they need to go to their missionary portal and check off that they tested it.  We had 40 apartments that come up as NOT SAFE, because they haven't checked it off.  So I did a little tutorial on how to do it.

Then Dan talked to them about locking their doors during the day and at night.  We often find when we go by missionary apartments that they aren't locked and we can walk right in.  That has been concerning to President.  Also he asked Dan to talk to them about not goofing off while on doorsteps.  So many people have Ring doorbells now and they record your actions while standing there.  That has become a little bit of a problem too.  After our Zoom presentation we had a meeting over the phone with Elder Stoddard, one of our Inspectors.  That went pretty well.

Outside our apartment Friday Morning

That night we were suppose to get together with all the other Senior Couples.  Several of the couples had been watching the news and felt worried about weather, so our dinner got canceled. The wind and the rain did get pretty bad.  Reporting up to 100 mile winds.  Rain was getting pretty hard too.  At 8:45pm Tornado Sirens went off.  Then I got nervous!!

The sirens kept going off for about 1 1/2 hours.  We were safe but we heard the next day that at least 9 tornados touched down in our mission and everything in it's sight was leveled.

Saturday morning after the tornado

Saturday was a beautiful morning and Dan and I took a walk around the neighborhood.  Lots of trees and dupre all over the streets and peoples yards. That afternoon we decided to try out the famous Clementin Naughty and Nice Ice Cream Parlor.  When we got there we realized we hadn't really had any dinner and so we looked around to see if we could grab some dinner before our ice cream.  Across the street of Billy G's.  It's a famous restaurant here in St. Louis.  So we thought we would go over and see if we could get in.  They said the wait was 20 minutes, so we waited.  We had a great salad and Pizza.  Then we walked across the street and had some ice cream.  we found out that the naughty ice cream has alcohol in it!  We went for the nice ice cream.

After church on Sunday we delivered about 5 Inspector Packets to our Inspectors.  It was good to actually meet them in person.  It gave us a better feel for what they can and are willing to do.

Looking forward to next week, Elder Kearon is coming to visit the Mission!!  Can't wait.
